Upcoming Album Release with Casey DeMott

Casey and SeanSince August of last year, I've been hard at work on an album release featuring a collection of songs spanning the last 12 years of my life.  My close friend Casey DeMott and I have been playing music together since '95 and in those 14 years, we have continually talked about releasing an album. Many musical ventures have been pursued in those years, playing in bands and pursuing smaller recording projects.

However, it has always been our goal and dream to record an album on our terms and release to those ready to listen. This dream will finally be realized as we will soon be releasing a full-length album featuring what we feel is a very representative collection of tunes we have written and played over the years. (This will actually be the first full-length album to my credit.)

The catalog of music I've written is vast, and Casey has been there alongside of me in writing much of the music to date. Narrowing down those tunes to a appropriate set for a single disc format was no small task. Ultimately, we ended up going with some earlier tunes, as well as some freshly written songs. Choosing music from a broad span of time has provided some great I am confident that everybody who has a chance to experience this body of work will enjoy what it delivers.

At heart, we are a couple of rock 'n' roll guys who owe a lot of our coming of age to the work ethic and lifestyle found in Michigan culture. The tunes on this record feature rocking guitars, powerful drums, driving bass, and soulful vocals. They should be a real treat for anybody familiar with the famous Detroit rock sound.

As we continue to build and polish the product, I will post more information; but I wanted to put it on everybody's radar that this will be coming soon.

Check out “No More Tomorrow”

New to the mp3 player on seansullivanmusic.com is the tune "No More Tomorrow." This song dates back many many years and I've been wanting to lay it down as a solo acoustic track for a while now. Tonight gave me the perfect opportunity to do so as my amazing wife hooked me up with a new microphone.

With this recording I went for a really tight, up-front sound, versus the ultra-live (roomy) sound of some of the other tracks in the mp3 player. You can hear how crisp my new mic is in picking up my acoustic guitar's sound.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Listen to “Way Back Home”

The first song I wrote after moving to Oregon (almost 3 years ago) was this one called "Way Back Home." I'm not going to go into what it means to me cause I think this song could have its own meaning to everyone.

It's up in the mp3 player now performed with just me and my guitar.

Enjoy!

How do you know the way back home, When you don't understand the road you're taking, How do you know which way to run, When you don't understand those demons in your head

Country Blues, Dobro Style

One of my instruments is a Dobro.  If you're not familiar with Dobros, they are traditionally acoustic guitars with big metal plates in 'em.  In fact, you might've heard of resonator guitars before and a Dobro is just a specific trademark.  Well, I love the Dobro cause it totally forces me to play in a different style when I pick it up.  I have it strung it so the tuning works great with a bottleneck slide, which is perfect for that country blues sound.   Lots of finger-picking goodness with this instrument.  I love the way the sound bounces off that metal plate.

Anyways, here's a couple of photos of me with/playing my Dobro.

Music Player Available

Unless you're reading this in an RSS reader, you've probably noticed that I've added an mp3 player to the site. I couldn't find one that looked and acted just like what I wanted so I threw one together in Flash. I plan on keeping a healthy number of tunes in this player, all featuring my music.

Right now there are a couple of tunes featuring me singing and playing my acoustic guitar. Also are the tunes from the demo I cut last April with a few other guys. We were calling ourselves "Instance" and since then have gone on to do other things individually.

As time goes on, I'm sure I'll put different tunes in rotation. Let me know if you like what you hear!

In other news, did you hear that MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice are playing a concert together in Utah? Unbelievable.  I would actually like to see some clips of Hammer since he's going to have a full choir there and some of the gospel backing vocals he used in his music were pretty awesome.
